FREE DADGAD Lessons from Simon Fox

More and more guitarists are getting interested in the sound possibilities of different tunings for the guitar, and by far the most popular is DADGAD. The problem is how do we try it out before committing to the time and effort of a full-fledged course of lessons?

I have been on the lookout for a good primer on DADGAD for some time. There are excellent materials on DADGAD from some of its most famous exponents like Laurence Juber and Pierre Bensusan, but I am told that these can be daunting for some beginners. Well fear not, because there are now FREE lessons to introduce you to DADGAD as well as some if its close relatives.

Simon Fox is a fine guitarist as well as a very good teacher. His web site gives you the fundamentals of right hand andleft hand position, as well as chord charts, scale diagrams, and introductory examples to get you playing from day one. I have seen a lot of "free" lessons on the web where you get what you pay for, but these are really useful lessons that will teach you how to play in the tunings, and not just the examples - you will be playing your own stuff before you know it.

The web site is set up like a book, with separate chapters on each topic with links to them all at the right hand side. The text is clear and informative, with diagrams and photographs to illustrate exactly what is being discussed. Best of all, you learn by playing DADGAD right from the start. The examples start off simple enough for a guitar novice but they are always musical and fun to play. Many of the examples are taken from Simon Fox's own compositions, so you have a good start if you wish to learn some of these (and I think you will).

So how is Mr. Fox making money from this venture? After all, he has put in countless hours creating the lessons as well as the very well laid out web site. Simple. You just pay for the MP3 audio of the examples if you like. You also get in the same package 28 tunes in both tablature and notation, as well as 4 complete tunes in MP3 - all for just $27. I have checked out all of this material and it is a very good deal. I will be reviewing Simon Fox's music soon but at this point I can tell you it is well worth getting to know, and even better, worth learning to play.

But don't take my word for it. Check it out for yourself here:
